Abstract

Media has become the largest instrument in society for raising awareness of various fields since it can cover a large population. The print media (books, magazines, journals, newspapers ), televisions, movie, video-game, music, cellphones, software and internet are all used in conventional media. Conventional media can be found in various arenas of life. The current situation of women in India needs to be addressed in order to understand women's empowerment. This paper would discuss briefly some key aspects of women empowerment, which should be adequately covered in the field of media , thus facilitating inclusivity. In the process of women's empowerment, we cannot ignore their support in the media industry at all levels , viz, management , technical, creative , glamour or field work force. This article will discuss the role of the media in empowerment for women. It will also explain how the media can speed up women's empowerment mechanisms by raising awareness of various social factors such as gender discrimination, various crimes against women, the status of women, declining sex ratio in some regions and empowerment through education for women.
