A NEW STRINGENT RULE FOR THE SOCIAL MEDIA MANIPULATORS- A THREAT TO ABUSERS IN 2021

Abstract

The researcher in this research paper will analyse new rules introduced by the Government of India for social media manipulators and will give suggestive measures to curb the social media intermediaries of public opinion which is a growing threat to democracy and freedom of speech and expression which is a Fundamental Right conferred by the Constitution of India, 1950. 

The manipulators of social media are mainly deluding people about any political parties, terrorism, modesty of a woman, defamation and so on. Recently on 25th February 2021, the Government of India announced new rules for social media manipulators who are misusing and abusing the use of social media. There are many intermediaries who are continuously misusing the social media and creating a threat to the nation which should be controlled at initial levels only. Although, the government tried to made strict rules but unless there are stringent laws and punitive measures for these intermediaries nothing can be curbed.

The intermediaries will now be traced that who are the originators of unlawful messages and spreading fake news through various social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, sharing contents on Youtube etc. Moreover, at the press conference held on Thursday 25th February , The Electronics and IT minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad introduced a new rules named as The Information Technology (Guidelines for intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
